Flashes of Brilliance #2 - Wall Hanging

How do you communicate when you can't understand the words being spoken to you?

How do you remember the person you were when the world doesn't understand the person you're becoming? 

With great difficulty, a lot of tears, dark humour over the ridiculousness of the situation and holding your loved ones even closer. And every now then when that communication gap is bridged - With a look, a gesture, an "I love you", you know the message was received and understood. That Flash of Brilliance makes all the other moments fade away. 

This collection is dedicated to the challenges myself, family and friends are encountering daily as a result of Dad suffering from Primary Progressive Aphasia. A terrible, incurable condition. And while it's pretty bleak, we can't focus on the bad, what we have today is far more important than what we've already lost, or what's to come - the way family has gotten closer, arguments have been set aside, friends rallying, spending more time together and learning to appreciate every single moment, truly living in the now.

"Flashes of Brilliance #2" is the smallest weave in this collection.

This woven wall hanging has been created using a variety of natural fibres, including wool, cotton, bamboo, cotton, merino, silk, ribbon and hand spun art yarn.  The fibres and colours shift and flow together, layered over and over again. The result is a textured, bold, statement wall hanging that begs to be touched. The piece is mounted on on a piece of foraged wood, ready to hang.
